Financial Support | Program Costs
Documents to send
To obtain an I-20 form you need to submit the following documents:
- Completed Application Form – Fill out the application form completely and accurately. Sign and date the form.
- Copy of passport
- Proof of Financial Support – Transfer students must provide a current financial statement at registration.
- Copy of a transcript from the most recent school attended
- Pay the $100 nonrefundable application fee. Payment options:

From a U.S. bank or bank with a U.S. affiliate
Payable to the University of Illinois - By Credit Card (Visa or Master Card):
Fill out and sign the credit information box in the application

- mail them to the IEI at 1205 W. Nevada, Urbana, Illinois 61801
How will you pay for your studies?
Indicate the source of support on the application and follow the instructions.
Personal funds
If you are paying for yourself, you must include your bank statement. This statement must be no older than 6 months and the amount available must be no less than the ESTIMATED PROGRAM COST for the term you are applying for.
This statement can show the amount in U.S. dollars or the equivalent of this amount of this amount in any other currency. If the statement is not in English, a translation must be attached.
Funds from family in the USA or abroad
If your sponsor is a person (a relative or friend) you must include their bank statement. In addition to the bank statement, the sponsor must also sign the Affidavit of Support.
Sponsor
Submit an official letter from the sponsoring organization that states the specific amount of funds granted.
- If you are applying from overseas, please check with the U.S. consulate in your country for processing times and procedures, and begin the process as soon as possible.
- If you are transferring to the Intensive English Institute from another school, a transfer verification form will be sent to you and should be given to your current school to release your record.
Funds required for issuing an I-20
These estimated costs are a required amounts to be shown on financial statements for issuing an I-20.

PLEASE NOTE: Students are required to purchase University Health Insurance ($219 estimated) if they do not have proof of other health insurance.
